Thursday, October 29th Pumpkin Painting
Friday, October 30th: Halloween!
Our class will be painting pumpkins on October 29th. I am in need of very small pumpkins. I would like all students to be able to paint their own pumpkin if enough pumpkins are donated. If not, 2 or 3 students will have to share the pumpkin and the pumpkin will just remain on display in the classroom instead of being taken home.
A time for the Halloween party is TBA. Look for notes coming home about the party.
Reading and Spelling Tests:
Each week the 1st and 2nd graders will be tested on spelling words, sight words, phonics, comprehension and oral reading fluency. At home, you could help by reviewing the spelling and sight words for the week. These are sent home each Monday in the homework packet. Also, the goal for each student would be to read A MINIMUM of 20 minutes a night. This will help students answer questions about stories and also keep up their reading speed.
1st Grade- The standard the first graders are working on for most of the first quarter is addition and subtraction. They will be bringing home assignments and homework based on addition and subtraction. To help, simple counting strategies would be great. For example, counting by 2's, 5's, 10's will really help build your child's number sense making adding and subtracting much easier for them. Math tests will be given as needed and the math tests will be saved until conference time. If you have any questions regarding the math curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact me.
2nd Grade- The second graders will be focusing on place value during the first quarter. All of their assignments will be based on the value of numbers and the ability to add and subtract large numbers. To help with this, assisting your child with homework to ensure they are doing it correctly will be much appreciated. Math tests will be given as needed and the test will be saved until conference time. If you have any questions regarding the math curriculum, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Each week the first and second graders will be focusing on a different writing skill. Right now, the first and second graders are focusing on good writing conventions and different sentence structures. Some examples include, capitols and periods, declarative sentences, exclamatory sentences, and adding details.
Please turn in all math homework whenever it is completed.
Reading logs and any spelling or extra practice attached to the reading log may only be returned on MONDAYS.
There are no consequences for not returning your homework as it is just extra practice for the student. However, I do record which students bring their homework back and reward students for doing so.
Show and Tell is only on Fridays. This is an earned activity and not always guaranteed. Please make sure that the share toy that is being brought to school can fit in your child's backpack. Thank you!
Fab Friday is a 15 to 20 minute time where students get free play time. Like share circle, this is also an earned activity and not guaranteed.
